Description

Mild steel etching plates are manufactured from high-quality CR4 cold rolled mild steel with a protective oiled finish. These plates offer a smooth, flat and consistent surface ideal for detailed intaglio work. Mild steel is a popular choice for artists preparing a steel plate for etching thanks to its ability to hold both fine lines and deep, expressive bites. Each plate is supplied ready to prepare and can be trimmed or cut to your preferred working size.

Mild Steel Etching Plates – Finish Details

Our plates are produced from CR4 cold rolled mild steel, known for its even surface and excellent plate-making characteristics. The oiled finish protects the steel during storage and transport and can be easily removed with a standard degreasing solution before applying grounds. Printmakers often choose mild steel for its affordability, durability and suitability for both fine line etching and bold, high-contrast mark-making.
