Available Options
Zinc Sheet—Typical crafting uses include etching plates, electroplating, stencils, roofs for garden projects, tabletops, countertops, and bar tops.
Grade
The Zinc sheet in our store is known as Titanium Zinc. It is 99.99% Zinc with a very small amount of Copper and Titanium added, which
improves malleability and strength.
Fabrication
It is easy to bend, drill and solder. We also sell a good
tin/silver self-fluxed solder for use with Zinc.
For manipulating sheets with hand tools, the thickness 0.8mm is popular. A soldering iron with a high wattage, say 200w, makes jointing much easier than the usual electronics version, which can be very hardgoing.
Patination
Following fabrication, a patina can be applied to produce an Aged or Rustic effect. This can be achieved with copper sulphate solutions, which are available online. Outdoors, the Zinc will acquire its own natural patina, which is matt and shades of grey. This will occur after many wet and dry weather cycles. For decorative pieces for use indoors as features or statement pieces, the patina finish can be treated with beeswax to seal the surface and liven up the appearance.
Uses
Its main commercial use is for building cladding and
roofing. Typical crafting uses include etching plates, stencils, roofs for garden projects, tabletops, countertops, and bar tops. This sheet can also be used as
Zinc plating anodes in electroplating
Weight
The weight of a zinc sheet at 1mm thick is circa 7.2 kilos per
square meter
